Built to Last: Championing Gender Equality and Diversity in the Built Environment

Built to last

In mid-2021 AustCham undertook research into the attitudes, perceptions and barriers to career progression women face working in the built environment sector in Hong Kong, across advisory, design, construction and infrastructure industries. This groundbreaking survey - the first of its kind in Hong Kong - provides insights into the issues companies need to address to build a pipeline of talent, retain and grow their talent base in the face of changing industries, and structural challenges for women working in the sector.

The research was released at AustCham’s ‘Built To Last’ event attended by 120 senior executive stakeholders from the private and public sectors. Featuring a panel of Industry Titans from the Construction, Property and Infrastructure sectors, the discussion focused on the barriers to gender diversity and how these could be overcome to unlock win-win outcomes for customers, employees, shareholders, and the Hong Kong community. The event was supported by companies including Leighton Asia, Arcadis, Colliers, MTR Corporation, Turner & Townsend, JEB and Link REIT.
